I have been on a cleaning rampage since last night and early this morning. There will be no beach cleanup this morning because I had to clean up my own house. Mr. Plastic Picker heard it, for sure. Blending families is always difficult, and even after 20 years the fundamental truth is my family is more preoccupied with cleanliness than his. Perhaps that is why I’m Dr. Plastic Picker? I’m trying to clean up the world’s oceans. But last night and this morning, I had to do a more mundane task – clean up my own house.

Honestly I never knew much about bugs before I started living with my in-laws. They are normal. It’s just my mother is very clean. She is obsessed with cleanliness if you have ever been to her house. This is probably why my sister has an auto-immune disease. But it made for having an orderly childhood as our house was always clean and organized.

In my own house, I am constantly fighting the chaos of life by myself. My children are actually decently organized and clean in their own rooms. For various reasons I refuse to have a cleaning person, so I clean the house myself. But there are six people who live in this house and. But really the cause of the drugstore/ biscuit/ bread beetle is probably the puppy. I think it came in her dried dog food. She and the cars are the one thing Mr. Plastic Picker takes care of, and obviously he was not caring for her pet area.

“Food storage areas like pantries and cabinets need to be vacuumed thoroughly, including the crevices between floor boards, the corners of cabinets, and areas where mice may have hoarded things like dry dog food.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drugstore_beetle

The Orkin website states “

What Do They Eat?

Drugstore beetles infests many food products including:

  • Flour
  • Cereal
  • Spices
  • Chocolates

They also infest non-food products like:

  • Books and manuscripts
  • Fur
  • Leather
  • Horn

Drugstore beetles have even been found in products that are poisonous like strychnine. https://www.orkin.com/other/beetles/drugstore-beetle

These are serious pests! I think I’ve dealt with most of it but I will call Joshua Pest Control today. We already pay for their service $126 a quarter. So now I will utilize their services. At least I’m finally getting my money’s worth out of our pest control service.
